The European Commission is launching a consultation on possibly granting EU-wide protection to traditional non-agricultural products rooted in the cultural and historical heritage of particular geographical locations by extending to such products the benefits of geographical indications.
The questionnaire contains questions about the current means of protection provided at national and EU level and the potential economic, social and cultural benefits that could be brought by improved Geographical Indication protection in the EU. The second part goes into more technical questions as to the possible options that could be considered.
