On 19/04/2022, the European Economic and Social Committee organised a Study Group on the Revision of the EU Geographical Indications System.
The meeting took place in the afternoon in a hybrid format, providing interpretation in EL-EN-FR-IT-RO. The agenda included a presentation by the EU Commission of the new proposal.

Irene Tolleret, MEP and Co-President of the EP Intergroup on “Wines, Spirits and Quality Products”, and several stakeholders from the sector, including AREPO, AREV, CNAOC, and OrIGn Europe, took part in the meeting.

During the discussion, Laurent Gomez, Secretary General of AREPO, intervened giving the point of view of the AREPO member regions on the GI Review.
The debate then continued with the questions from EESC members to the EC and the presentation of the working document on the proposal for the Regulation.
