On December 1st, 2016, AREPO participated in the 3rd Meeting of the European Rural Networks’ Assembly, the main governance body of the ENRD and the EIP-Agri network.
This strategic framework for the networks has been put in place in 2015 and will last for all programming period 2014-2020.
The objective of the 3rd meeting of the Assembly was to take stock of the EU rural network activities and discuss the proposals for the 2017 priority activities of the European Rural Networks reflecting on the outcome of Cork 2.0.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan, introduced the Assembly with a keynote message on the importance of the achievement reached with Cork 2.0 declaration 2016. The document addresses a number of new challenges and opportunities, like climate change and rural connectivity. Furthermore, it highlights that the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is not only about farmers and agriculture but also about rural areas and the need to assure a good quality of life to the people living in these areas.
The Commissioner anticipated that DG AGRI will work on an action plan proposal to implement Cork 2.0 declaration and will also launch a public consultation process to simplify the CAP.
Finally, the afternoon has been dedicated to an inclusive workshop on digitisation and connectivity in rural areas.
